On February 9th the Westport Fire Department was dispatched to I 95 NB between exits 18 and 19 for a report of a tractor trailer fire. The initial dispatch was for Engine 5, Engine 2 and the Shift Commander. Fairfield Fire department also responded with 3 Engines and Car 3.
Engine 5 arrived and confirmed the cab of the tractor trailer fully involved with fire exposing the trailer. Engine 2 arrived and both companies stretched a hose line to extinguish the fire. Both occupants had evacuated prior to Fire Department arrival.
Fairfield Firefighters assisted on scene with water supply and stretched an additional hand line to assist with extinguishing fire that was intensified by ruptured diesel tanks. Firefighters from both towns worked to extinguish hotspots and overhaul. The contents of the trailer were not damaged by fire.
DEEP responded to assist with the cleanup of unburned fuel. CSP was on scene to control traffic and investigate. All 3 travel lanes were shut down during extinguishment. The last Fire department vehicle cleared at 10:03 PM.
