The Westport Fire Department was requested to respond to a call of smoke in the area of Compo Beach. The initial response was engine 4. Upon arrival of engine 4 they reported a working fire in a 2.5 sty wood frame that was under renovation. Car 3 upgraded the response to a structure fire. Four engines, one ladder, and the shift commander responded with a mutual aid engine from Norwalk. Car 3 reported heavy fire out of the roof and fire on the second floor. Fire units searched the structure for victims and began to extinguish the fire. The fire was contained to the areas encountered by arriving units and the scene was turned over to the Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation. There were no civilian injuries and one firefighter sustained minor injuries. That firefighter was treated and released from the medical facility. Engine 4 remained on scene to assist the Fire Marshal’s Office and the cause is currently under investigation.
