At 5:50pm, the Westport Fire Department was dispatched to a kitchen fire at 22 Hiawatha Lane.
The first arriving units reported heavy smoke and fire visible from the first floor. The fire was
located in the kitchen with extension to the attic. Two 1 ¾ inch hose lines were deployed and a ventilation hole was cut in the roof. The fire was quickly extinguished.
All occupants were outside the home and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
No injuries were reported at the time of this press release and the fire is under
investigation by the Westport Fire Marshal’s office.
The response included 4 engine companies, 1 truck company and the shift commander
from Westport as well as mutual aid from Wilton and town coverage from Fairfield.
The Westport Police Department and Westport EMS were also on scene.
